Hello everyone,

I was just looking at my Cabomba, and I noticed that there are some strange thread-like things growing on it. They look like threads, some are almost white, while others are the same colour as the cabomba. they are coming out from the space where the leaves meet the stalk, and they hang down to the bottom. They are only on about half the stalks, and have appeared either yesterday or today, unless I just didn't notice them, which is not unlikely. Will try to get a good picture.

I am so confused, I can't find any pictures of cabomba like this, so I guess it might be something else. Algae, maybe?

Any ideas of what I need to do, or if I need to worry at all?

Thanks!

Ok, after touching them, I think they are roots.

This seems odd to me, why would roots grow out of the middle of a plant?

Odd.

Because they just do. With cabomba, anacharis, rotala and many other plants.

It's a means for the plant to both extract nutrients from the water column and also an attempt to find a place to anchor itself.

Roots

My anacharis do that, and the long, hanging roots get really long haha. No worries. I guess it means it's healthy too right, the plant?

I suppose it makes sense. I'm not used to thinking about plants in aquatic terms. They draw nutrients from the water, which is all around them, so why wouldn't there be roots everywhere?

I'm so landlocked. It's sad. I almost typed sand. It's sand.

and I'm ready for bed.

Thanks everyone!
