Hello again people...I have yet another Newbie question!

I bought a "Algae Eater" fish last weekend to help rid the back of my tank of algae, and he died today:( I'm in a weird situation...I go to college about 3 1/2 hours away from my home, and my wonderful girlfriend takes care of our fish daily and so I didnt get to see the fish. I was just wondering if anyone else would know of any possible reasons that i dont know.

I have a 29 gallon tank with 2 angelfish, a synodontus eupterus (sp.), a glass catfish, and molly (or maybe a platty...cant remember) and the other fish seem to be doing fine...my catfish has grown a little bit and is quite active, all of my other fish haven't grown much, but are very active and seem to be very healthy...so, I was just wondering if there was something common I didnt know about algae eaters...like if they're not very hardy or something like that?

sorry if confusing and too long!!

You need to be more specific about which algae eater, there are plenty.

Otocinclus affinis are reputed to be sensitive. I've not observed it, and I suspect that the die offs are due to a die off of their gut bacteria in shipping. Those that survive shipping and the subsequent drop off tend to be quite hardy.
