The wife and I were finishing dinner last night when suddenly she gave a blood curdling scream and shouted "Nutmeg! No".

Sensei - our dojo loach - had leapt from the tank, and our wire-haired dachshund, Nutmeg, very nearly had her first fish dinner. Sensei was flipping and flopping around like nobody's business, so it took a few grabs to get hold of him and plop him back in the tank. Then I noticed that he had a bunch of dog hair wrapped around him especially near his gills, so I netted him and removed the stuff. He did seem a bit dazed at first, and our platy and swordtail pestered him for a while, but he seemed pretty much normal this morning.

We've had Sensei for about 6 months, and though (like most loaches) he does come up to the top a lot for gulps of air and food, this is the first time he'd leapt out. As a preventative measure, I've cut down the plastic lid from one of those small plastic transportation tanks and fit it snugly over the openings in our aquarium lid.

One of Sensei's favorite foods is shrimp pellets, perhaps he smelled the scampi Diane and I were eating last night and figured he'd give it a try? ;)

Anyway, I'll be keeping a close eye on this fella for a few days. I can't wait to get him out of a 10 gal and into something bigger (hopefully a 55 gal)

you like long animals, don't you?

:D Actually I like all animals. Dogs are my favs. That's why I'm a board member for our local humane society.

Besides Nutmeg the dachshund we have a chihuahua "Lady", a black lab "Shadow", and terrier cross "Rags".
