Sooo...I was very against inverts for some reason, until I found myself watching videos on invert only tanks and whatnot. I'll be planting my 5g, hopefully heavily, however it will take quite a while to plant due to financial reasons.

As far as stocking goes, can anyone suggest what to stock? I'd like shrimp and maybe a snail or two. I just have no experience with inverts...how many etc. I'm not afraid of briggs, because I think I can control them as far as egg sacks go, but anyone with better ideas, please tell me! That's if I can even keep snails!

I have an active, growing population of yellow shrimp in a 5 gallon. Really you can do any of the neocaridina species (cherry shrimp, yellow, blue pearl (my favorite), snowball). They are very hardy little inverts. You can start with a dozen and your population will grow to fit the circumstances (tank size, food availability). You'll want to get the tank going and cycled before you add shrimp, of course. I don't know much about snails. I do like my nerites, though.

Nerite snails won't breed in freshwater only brackish/salty water so they would be good and you won't have to worry about a population explosion.

I'd get red cherry shrimp, as they're the easiest and cheapest to find, and they're extremely durable. Like happypoet said, make sure your tank is cycled before adding anything.
