Hi! I got my first mystery snails last Wednesday (thanks dixienut!) And just wanted to make sure I'm doing everything I should be for them. I have a 17 gallon hexagon tank, there's probably only 15 gallons in there cause I have the water level lowered a little bit for them. I have live plants but there not doing so good, a few are dying slowly... The substrate is half crushed coral and half aquarium soil. I've had the snails since last Wednesday and 3 of them were really active the first 2 days, one only moves around in the dead of night. Friday and yesterday they haven't been very active. They ate some cucumber and an algae tablet the first 2 days but haven't showed any real appetite since then.. I'm OK with this non activity as long as its normal. Thanks, Jess!

i think that's a great set up! Just make sure that if you have power filters, that you cover the intakes since the mystery snails could get stuck on the intakes of the filters and eventually die. I've read on the forums that you can cover the intakes with sponge material. The mystery snails will eventually find the food when you leave it in there long enough.

snail jello is pretty much a must for snails to have healthy shell growth. search the forum here and i'm sure you'll come up with a recipe or two.

and ditto on the sponges covering the filter intakes! back when i was raising apple snails, i'd get the odd one stuck on the intake and it wasn't easy to get them off. i've had to cut apart a couple of intakes before i started using sponge pre-filters.

Awesome! Thanks! They have been more active the past day. I guess that's how it goes. I'm going to make some 'snaillo' on Wednesday so hopefully they like it!!
