Which is better? Or which do you personally think is better and why? I am looking to get some shrimp for both my 10gallon and 2.5 gallon planted tanks. The only other inhabitants will be danios and oto cats.

I personally like amano. They are really fun to watch and they clean algae off your tank. But they're both great shrimp

Amanos will eat up on various algae buildups while the ghost shrimp will most munch on leftover food. However, Amanos will grow quite larger than ghost shrimps. If it is a planted tank then I'd go with Amanos.

Amanos (Caridina japonica) and ghost shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus) reach the same max size of about 5 cm. This is according to www.petshrimp.com.
Both will also help clean up excess food, as they are both omnivores. They also both eat algae, but Amanos focus of soft algae while ghosts will pick at hair algae. Both will not make appreciable dents in algae, unless you have a lot of them since they're both so small.

Why not go with both? They're both peaceful and wouldn't fight with each other (as far as I've heard). They just end up sticking with their own kind, from what I hear.

As hondamx said, though, they're both great. You couldn't go wrong with either one. It's just that Amanos are a bit more expensive ($2 each vs. about 30 cents for each ghost shrimp, where I live). The good thing about that, though, is that the Amanos are more likely to be better taken care of. Ghost shrimp are often of poor quality (e.g. will die soon after you buy them) because they're considered cheap feeders. So they're not treated well and shipped less than carefully.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I am going to get a few of each. It is a community tank anyways so more diversity would be good.
