I have an Amazon Sword in my 10-gallon tank with ONE SMALL common goldfish. I do not use CO2 injectors, but I have plenty of light in there for it, 3 watts per gallon.

I have a question: Will it reproduce?

as for all plants do :D

depends. fert or no. what substrate.

and small or not, even one goldfish isn't good for 10 gal... as they're poop factories and something with metabolism

::rant:: (Never mind the space considerations. I can't change those anytime soon. No $ and no permission (for an upgrade) from the tenants aka my parents. But soon I'll be out and I'll be able to buy a bigger aquarium for the fish. OK I lied, I still have two fish in it. I didn't want to cause a flame war or some anger fest from people who hate me for "torturing" a goldfish. Really, it does frustrate me to hear from you people with huge aquariums all the time, telling me I ought to go out and buy a bigger one. Or give away the fish. Who am I supposed to give them away to? And how do I know they'll be responsible with them?) NO MORE POSTS ABOUT THE # OF FISH IN MY TANK ::end of rant::

As far as the plants are concerned:

No fertilizer but the goldfish poop. The substrate is gravel. The temperature is steady at about 72*F ... pH I usually keep around 6.8-7.2 by occasional water changes, blahdeblahdeblah.

I haven't seen any flowers yet from the swordplant. I'm hoping it will happen soon. But while we're on the subject of flowers: What about aponogetons? How quickly will they reproduce once the flowers have appeared on them?

@ three watts per gallon, no CO2, and the nutients from two goldfish (we'lll get into that later), i'd say you're setting yourself up for an algal bloom bigtime.

amazon swords grow HUGE before they start sproutin off... ive had mine in perfect conditions in a 30 gal cube for about 6 months and still nothing, its about a foot high now...

how huge is huge??

I have one in a tank that is not huge but it is healthy the plant is abotu 6"-8" tall and spreads out about 8 "..it has just sent out it's first runners. it has been in the tank for about 4 months. it is suplemented with CO2 and ferts. and the tank has 3+wpg.

I have an amazon sword plant in my 46 that takes up about half of the aquarium. It has reproduced twice now each time with about nine daughter plants that I was able to sell to the LFS. Most amazons get to big for a ten gallon tank.
