Me again...I tested my water this morning...Tank had cycled....It has been up a little over a month. I had finally gotten all my readings to 0. Amonia is off the chart this morning. Fish seem fine...I did a 30% water change the Saturday before last. I'm thinking my plecos are the culprits. Should I do a 40-50% change today?

What is "off the chart"?

I'm at work right now, so don't have the numbers. It was one of those darn test strips. It was dark green...

When you get home, you need to do a 80% water change and test again.

As long as the ammonia is up keep up with the water changes. Something upset the cycle. Try to keep it to less than 1ppm or low (depends on how your strips read). It may mean a 30% change or 2 30% changes and you may need to repeat tomorow.

Ok. so no bigger than 30%, and should I vacuum the gravel, or just do the water from the top of the tank?

Lisa

It is fine to do a bigger change than 30% if you like. I just find it easier to do a few smaller changes until things get right rather than huge ones. Personal choice. If I had a python I would probably do larger ones.

If you are doing lots of water changes right now I wouldn't worry about always doing a super gravel vacuuming, but getting some extra gunk each time won't hurt.

Aquarium Heaters

Can someone recommend a good heater for my 54 g corner tank. The one I was using just died. I did have a back up, but would like to get one that I know is good, not just what my LFS recommends.

YOu dont't mean the nitrate too do you? If the tank is/was cycled, you should have some sort of nitrate reading unless you have tons of live plants.
