hi

i was just reading another thread that mentioned a extreme raise in ammonia. does this happen naturally or do you have to put something in the water for it to do this. is this necessary? just wondering thinking of starting a salt water tank and dont have much experience ad thing will help. thanx in advance

Ammonia is a result of the organic process. There has to be something living OR dead to produce ammonia. This has to be added from an outside source, the easiest way is to set up your SW aquarium, throw in a raw cocktail shrimp. let the shimp completly dissolve, and then test to see when Ammonia and Nitrite test 0, then its ready for fish.
