An Eclipse 12 for Christmas - Cycle question

I am giving my son an Eclipse 12 for Christmas. I want the tank cycled by Christmas. Can I put the Bio wheel in a cycled tank to jump start it? How long 1 month then put in the new tank with some fish? Thanks!!

It would definatly help. Just make sure the media inside the filter isn't new. You could also add gravel and decorations from a cycled tank to a new tank to help also.

yes you can place the bio wheel in an existing tank.

also if you use sponges in the existing tank you can take squeezinx from the existing tank and seed the new tank.
just like using bio spira you seed the new tank with bacteria from an existing tank..you can also run a sponge filter in the existing tank..by christmas that will be loaded with bacteria
if you do this the cycle can take only 4-5 days.

I would just run it in another tank for a week or so and dont clean it when you make the switch

that'd be the best cycle besides buying bio-spira.
