i'm setting up a 15 gallon tank with 1 or 2 honey gouramis, 6 black phantom tetras, and 4-6 cories. does anyone have any suggestions on something to get instead of the phantom tetras??? something uncommon would be nice. i wanted a kuhli loach but i think the tank is too small. please comment
i think you could put some khulis in a 15 gallon. they stay small and aren't too active. and i really never understood why some websites say to get larger tanks.
problem with them is you might not see them very often, as they are highly nocturnal
No, but it wouldn't be stocked correctly. You'd be fine with a honey, 4 kuhlis and 4 cories, seeing how kuhlis, although reaching 3-4", are eel-shaped, and compared to their length do not produce much waste.
I have owned kuhli loaches in a 15 gallon before. About three is a good number and they are actually quite amusing and friendly tankmates(I had them with cherry barbs). They like plants to hang on - they will drape themselves in a way that you think they are dead until you realize they are just sleeping. I had regular neutral pea gravel mixed with a bit of white sand and they loved nosing around in it as well. They do need some kind of hiding place - the plants should do but a hollow rock/log/or terra cotta pot is good too. BTW I had them for many years(5?) before losing them to a hurricane - so they can live a good long time.
What substrate do you have? As long as it does not have sharp edges, it's fine. Sparkling gouramis are even better than honey gouramis as they are even smaller usually reaching to only 4 cm and smaller.
