Hi, friends!
Do you remember that I was thinking about adding or not Epsom salt on every partial water change, but that I was going first to check my tank's water GH and KH?
Well, I did it recently and these are the results:
GH: 340 ppm; KH: 125 ppm; and I re checked the pH: 8.0
With these values, I don't think I'm going to add any Epsom salt on my water changes. What do you think folks? I think the Eco Complete African cichlid substrate (Ivory Coast sand) from CaribSea is working nice with it's aragonite, no?

Cool wouldn't do a thing my friend sounds like a nice value with the water perimeters..

Yep, usually the cichlid sustrates, or aragonite sand (rock) work just fine...and it is nice because it is a gradual change, helps with the fish adapting and all.

Just curious though, why epson salt?

Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate and therefore raises GH. However, one needs to be careful; in natural waters GH is both magnesium and calcium salts; fish need calcium both for sodium uptake and to built their skeletons, and water with very low calcium, even if beefed up to a high GH with epsom salts, would still give Rift Lake cichlids big problems.
