Credit service from the bank called me today and said there was three suspicious charges in my credit card and asked if they were legit. Well no they weren't. They totalled around $4500 and the person who used the card even knew my address. One of the charges was for some housing company in Isreal. The other two were for home security equipment from a company in California.

I used my card twice late Sunday night for the first time in ages. One for Big Als and the other for specialtylights.com, both of who I have ordered from before and have secure order forms.

I'm behind a firewall, have key encryption and mac address filtering on my router so I'm a bit shocked this happened. I also shred all my paper garbage. I've cancelled my card and may have to go to the bank to dispute the charges if they go through. I looked at my account online and they show as pending.

Man I really don't need this. I know there's never going to be 100% security but it's made me nervous to order online again.

Wow. I am pretty sure that they'll remove the charges. When my husband was in college, we found out (after the fact) that his roommate had stolen his credit card number and then used my husband's card for many purchases months later when he went home to Texas. It's not a pleasant feeling. In our instance, all the charges were dropped asap. I really hope it goes as easily for you.

Let us know what happens!

That's really awful--especially since you've taken such precautions. Good luck, Reiverix!!

That sucks out loud, John. Hope you get it resolved quickly.

Yeah Dave, you'd be just the guy for that. I am having visions....:D

On another note, the Big Als order was shipped and will be here Thursday. I might as well take comfort that something went right.

Good luck, Reiverix, I'm sure the bank will clear this up.

We had a credit card (missing/stolen) a few years back, and the perosn(s) used the card locally at several major stores and restaurants. What I don't understand is why stores don't use the security cameras and have these people arrested. The exact time and dates are on most all receipts.

Maybe it's just not worth the time to persue and arrest these criminals..?
That must be it, some laws are ok to break...

:thud:

Never use PayPal !!! I don't know if that's what you used for the purchases or not, but my brother in law got his information stolen through a paypal account....luckily he found out about it within 2 hours of the theft...but it sure was a pain to take care of the fallout !!

Also, always be sure that the little "Lock" is present in the bottom right corner of the window when you're putting in your credit information....along with the "https" instead of just "http" in the beginning of the address in the address bar.

Hope it all works out well for you Reiv......what a pain in the nether region !
