so I started with 6 neons almost 3 weeks ago and now I have two, maybe even one :(. One neon is in perfect health, no ich and the fins are pristine, wohoo! The other one still has some ich, doh.

my question: since neons are schooling fish and I can't get a q-tank for a month or so, will my 1-2 neons be ok until then? They hide a little more often, but still swim around every once in a while.

They will be fine until then. Slightly higher stress rates, but nothing significant. I have one tetra that has been solo for about a year now--he's active, healthy, and occassionally hangs out with my other schoolers.

Yeah, he/she (they?) probably feel like tough-guys for skippin' school!:D

lol :). Oh yeah, my smallest neon (~.5") that died....I couldn't find it anywhere . I think my swordtail ate it up :(.

Just goes to show you...you should never skip school!:D

sigh....there's only one left now :(. It was stuck to the intake of the AC200, which led us to discover the teeny .5" neon stuck in the sponge holder of the AC200. Not a pretty sight at all. My gf cried (really), but she's ok now.

Hmm, I need to find some more hardy & still attractive schooling fish.

None of those fish will live in a tank full of ich! Neons are hardy if they're not combating ich. Whatever fish you get next time, get some ich medication too. Or, just go with salt and heat. Try www.skepticalaquarist.com for good info or search here at AC.
Personally, I treat every single fish I purchase for ich wether I see it or not. And don't use 1/2 doses (well, maybe on the first day, then go to full strength). I lost so many using 1/2 dose and haven't lost any since using full strength (after treating for one day at 1/2 strength). That goes for salt too!

Good luck!
