angel fish

Nice to see you again Bettagurl! :D
To answer your question, I wouldn't keep one in less than a 29 gallon high. You can easily have a nice pair in a 29 with a few bottom feeders etc. They're awesome fish!! I have way too many....mine keep having babies...I've stopped trying to rear them myself and have now changed to the "fittest survive" method....just don't have anymore room LoL

im not sure(ive never kept angels)but do they get along with female bettas?i would like to put one or two in my 30 gal with the two girls i bought from you,but i deffinetly will not put them with the girls if there may be problems,i planned on heavily planting the tank and having caves here and there,my stocking plans were going to be,
6 cory cats
two female bettas
and a clown pleco(maby)
i would love a angel but i dont want to have problems with putting the girls with them.like i said i have never had angels before and will research them alot.
:)

we have already told you you need to get another female betta more than anything else if you plan on keeping them both.
an angel would work BUT, you need to splurge and get one of the biggest sizes you can find (not the ones that have bodies the size of a dime that are like $5 at petsmart). you should look around alot and see what each store has. i know that petsmart gets angels that are 75% of the way to being fully grown. im not saying you need to get one that big already, but make sure that the angel is at least 1/2 inch bigger than the biggest of the bettas you are going to put in there. otherwise, it may be tormented by the female bettas and have its scales and fins nipped, etc.

im going to my favorite lfs tomorrow and buy about 3 female bettas, would a fully grown angel be ok in the 30 gallon?I dont want the angel to get stunted or have the bettas get picked on.thanks :)

i wouldnt get a truly fully grown angel, because one, they carry a hefty price, and two, they might not acclimate to your tank as well as young ones. i would look at the biggest size the LFS has and the smallest size, and if you are lucky, they will have medium sizes in between. if they only have a really tiny and a really big, then you might want to go to petsmart and get their "large" which is really about half size.that should be fins as long as you get the 3 other females. i have found that if the angel is the only one in the tank, they take the whole tank as their territory and then simple ignore the other fish in it, or they veiw them just as fish that live with them but do pose a threat to their territory.

good, ill probably get an angel,if not a school of neon tetras,when/if i get an angel fish is there a specific food for them?the tank is nicely planted and has caves and rocks.

Hey Bettagurl,

Sorry it took me so long to reply :o I have Angels mixed in with a few female bettas of mine and they are doing great together. Never bothered each other evem at the begining. My angels were all full grown once I added the bettas. As far as aggression goes...I have never had any of my females bother other fish...they just tend to flare and spar with the other females a bit...nothing serious.
Whether you end up getting a smaller or larger angel, it really shouldn't matter as the tank will be new to all of them.
Yea like jm1212 has said...angels eat just about whatever food you throw in..mine get flakes, shrimp pellets, algea wafers, peas, frozen bloodworms, brineshrimp and mosquito larvae. They're not fussy at all thank goodness :thm:

how do you sex angelfish?i would like a pair but if they spawned would they be agressive towards the other fish?candycat21/,the females you sent me are so sweet, the copper is so curious about everything while the yellow is so mellow.i have one of my betta fry in a baby net in the girls tank because he is so much bigger than the other fry he was trying to eat them.the girls are so curious about him he got out of his net by accident and they ignored him(i dont trust them with him yet though).
