angel fish

there is no reliable method, other than when the angels are spawning, to sex tha angels.

angels will become territorial when they pair up..most of the aggressive behavior is during the breeding cycle ..they will defend the area they intend to spawn in and will defend the spawn site once they spawn.
there are a couple of days after spawning where they are relatively peacful(unless they are raising the young)
angels spawn about every two weeks.

I have a fully grown angel with a female betta, some neons, and a pair of bolivian rams in my heavily planted 55g. The neons were a cheap experiment and they are slowly disappearing one by one. The angel must be getting to them. I've never seen the angel or betta fight, though the betta eats much faster than the angel. She's getting very fat because of this. Your 30 should be plenty of room for the angel and bettas.

Hey, Glad to know they're doing well and enjoying their new tank!
As far as sexing angels...like the others have said, it just about impossible until they actually breed. I would only do a single angel in the 30 with the female bettas...because if you happen to end up with a male/female angel and they spawn, they will be extremely aggressive...i've had breeding pairs literally chase down and kill other angels and bigger fish for trespassing so to speak, so just stick with the one angel and the females.

i found some angels at my lfs,
3 inches long 5inches tall
$24.95

5 inches long and 7 inches tall
$22.99

i was amazed that the bigger one was cheaper, every time i go to the fish section in the pet shop the angel comes the the glass,im not sure what kind she is but she has one orange spot on her head and the rest of her body is a pale yellow-white color.candycat21, im going to send you some pics of the tank, its a little cloudy(i just added some plants and did a gravel vac).

there is only one angel in the tank, her fins are a little torn but other than that she looks healthy.how long can angels live?

Too bad I am not coming to VA anytime soon; I have about 100 quarter-size (body only) Blushing Gold Angels (I do not ship Angels). IMHO $23 is too much for an Angelfish; if there are other LFS, call them and check out their stock.

angels have a life span of about 15 years
BWT i wouldnt go with a fish with torn fins, but if they have MINIMAL tears then you could go with it. just make sure that when you get her there are acctually fins and not stubs where the fins used to be. to many times have i seen angels in pet stores that have little or no fins left, and that extensive of an injury can lead to fungal infections.
so IMO check her out and if her fins are only torn a bit then you should be ok.

i dont think im going to get the angel with the torn fins, she acts too aggresive towards other fish.i would have loved your angels meyerhaus, too bad.

Meyerhaus, if you are ever in Columbus, I am looking for angels for my 55g. The stores around here have very poor selection of angels if any. I'm sort of planning on going to the CAFE auction in October to see if I can get some angels there.
