If in a tank of 4 angels, 2 pair off and spawn basically every two weeks and the eggs are not fertile, which of the situations is most likely:

1. The pair is young and stupid and doesn't know how to do the deed properly.
2. I have a tank full of females and the dominant female is doing the whole sympathy thing.
3. I'm a complete idiot who doesn't know what the heck is going on.

I never manage to catch the two of them in the act so I can't tell you which types of tubes they each have.

The first spawn a bunch of eggs turned white and I pulled the 2nd 2 angels out, but left the cories in and the eggs disappeared, the second spawn I promised I'd do somethingg to help but noticed the eggs on the glass on the way to work and by the time I got back, poof gone. This spawn, cut the amazon sword leaf, put it into a 2.5 gallon tank with a mature sponge filter and water from the main tank. This morning I plucked some white eggs off the leaf, since I hope I rightly believe means they aren't fertile, and are fungased. Got back from work tonite and they're all white. D'oh!

By the second spawn you should have some fertile eggs, if they are male & female. The only way to be sure is to observe them.

One of the fish, if they are male & female, may have fertility issues. This happens in all animals, fish included.

When you pull the spawn, are you adding any anti-bacterials or anti-fungals to the hatching tank water? Old school breeding says to use water from the parent's tank, this often contains bacteria that are harmless to adults, but will wipe out a spawn. I get a much better hatch rate with 100% fresh water, with all the equipment in the hatching tank, including the tank itself sterilized with a bleach/water solution.

Bacteria will take out eggs faster than fungus, the fungus is usually secondary. Often with angel breeding it takes several tries to find the mix of anti-bacterials & anti-fungals that works best for you. Start with methelyne blue, anywhere from 5 to 10 drops per gallon. If you don't see any results, add 7 drops per gallon meth blue, and add 1-5 drops per gallon Maroxy. Still have a poor hatch rate? 7 drops/gallon meth blue, 3 drops/gallon Maroxy, and from 1/2 to 4 drops per gallon acriflavin.

It is a big trial & error deal, sometimes you hit it right from the beginning, other times it takes a dozen spawns. It took me a god 6 spawns to find the right mix for me, 7 of meth blue, 3 of Maroxy, and 1/2 to 1 of acriflavin.

Try to keep whatever the pair is spawning on clean as well, I rinse the pvc pipe I have in my pair's tanks a couple times weekly with tap water, and wipe with a paper towel. This minimizes bacterial transfer.

Well I'm coming to the conclusion that is I have two females, I will try and keep them under observation in two weeks time when they "spawn" again and try to id male female tubes. Thanks for the assist in battling fungus and bacteria.
