ok im thinking of investing in a 55 gal or 100 gal tank for just angels and maybe a few bottom dwellers how many angels would co exist in each tank if they were well planted and super filtered. oh and should i put in sand or gravel.

you can fit maybe 3-5 adults in a 55, maybe 5-6 in a 100, as for bottom feeders, i'd go with corys, or some raphaels

ok im still trying to make plans for a 55 or 100 gal tank. would a bichir be ok in a tank with angels or would he be a trouble maker? I think they are cool and would like to be able to have on in my big tank if i get it so what do you guys think?

It is an interesting question. I had 6 young adults in a 225, I got unlucky. they formed three pair. Two of the pair sort of got along. The third pair decided they wanted nothing to do with the others (sort of a random decision made in the cover of darkness one night). I had to remove the other 4 or they would have died as a result of injuries.

Try to avoid pairs and you have a better chance of increasing specimen count. Then you just get into conspefic conflict. Cichlids can be a challenge.

Or, you might just end up with 3-5 that tolerate each other and never exhibit problems.

Nothing black and white, No rule, just lots of shades of grey.
