Angelfish Growth Differences??

I bought 6 angelfish a few weeks ago, 3 Marble and 3 Sunset Blushers. They were all about the same size when I got them. The marbles are growing quickly (larger and thicker) and the blushers seem to not be as much. They are eating and are active and all. I was just wondering.

Are there different growth rates for the different types of angels?

it actually breaks down finer than that.. the growth rate will vary from each individual fish.

some will grow more quickly while others do not.

often it has been attributed to competition for food.
but even then, assuming all fish ate equal amounts of food, the growth rate will vary.

I watch them and make sure they all eat each time I feed them, so I know they all are eating. The marbles are just getting thicker and bigger alot faster than the blushers. The blushers look more delicate and I though maybe the blushers were just slower.

Some types need slightly different nutrition than others (for example, solid blacks need a little more protein). But it is true that different breeds will have different growth rates. Most likely they had to select very strictly to get the blushing angels and therefore had to sacrifice a few other things (like hardiness, growth rate, robustness, etc.). If this trend continues it may be best to separate the slacking angels to their own tank and feed a little more heavily and keep water quality a little higher, this way they can catch up.
