Hello I need some help here!
I have a 50 gal aquarium home to 1 Black angelfish, 2 golden guaramis, 1 red tailled black shark, 1 ruby barb , 1 blach ghost knifefish, 1 plecko, and 5 red eyed tetra.
I have had this set-up for about two years or so. I have never tested my water and don't own a test kit. I have never had a heater of any kind in this tank.I perform 15% water changes from time to time, with wonderful healthy looking fish.
I have just recently installed a bubble system in my tank. I began to see a change in my angelfish. hovering in the back corner, and quite but still eating flakes and pellets. about three days later I introduced the red eyed tetra.
It has been about four days now after introducing the tetra, and my angel is now swimming in tight circles over and over. THIS BEHAVIOR HAS NOW BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROX. 24 HRS. I wonder if there is something I can do tonight for her, and I need to know what type of test kits I should be buying?
Any help would be great. Thanking you in advance

the API liquid freshwater test kit is what most people around here are recommending. If your water is good, it should test at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrItes, and 5-40 nitrAtes.(with 5 being the best and 40 being kinda high.)

If not, perform around 40% water changes daily until the water is in check.

Edit: Also, your fish will love you even more if you get a heater :)

great thx for your help. I am on my way to purchase a kit and heater this morning. I wonder if you might suggest something for my angelfish I woke up this morning and she's still swimming in tight circles non-stop.

get the test kit , test the water and post the results.

you will need a starting point before anyone can make any helpful suggestions.

you'll need to post water temp also.

your mix of fish may also be part of the problem.
red tail sharks often are a bit pugnacious and may chase tank mates.. angels are usually one of their targets.
black ghost knives can get quite large too as well as the species of Pleco you may have.
the tank may be reaching it's load capacity..
so keep an eye out.

at this point tho there isn't much you can do until you get an idea what the water params are.

Thanx for answering my call I have gr8 news. My angelfish is stopped turning in circles, and she seems to be swimming in a normal fashion for now but she still won't eat, and seems very timmid allowing even the smallest tetra push her around.she is swimming around very slowly no her aggresive self.she seems to prefer the dark and seems to become active only when the lights go out.As soon as the lights go on she usually retires to a back corner and stays very still. As far as my water goes, I did a 40% water change and then purchased a test kit. The water now tests PH 0---Am--0---Nitrites 0---Nitrates 10. should I keep the lights off all day for her or not bother?
Also what temp should this tank be at?
Thanks 4 your help Have a gr8 day

how is the angels color?fins clamped?showing definite signs of stress?as of the last few years angels have been subject to several parasitic infestations.flagellated protozoa, Camalanus and capillaria(both worms) to name a few of the parasites.typical signs include clamped fins, loss of color.. hiding and loss of appeatite.sometimes they respond with praziquantel and metronidazole .some parasites do not rspond to this mix and Fenbendazole/flubendazole or levamisole hcl must be used.

Wow Star Rider, your good! thx.. she is stiil kicking this morning.( very happy).
but yes she seems to have her fins some-what clamped but not always or sometimes she'll twitch and clamp her fins closed and then open.she certainly looks stressed as she swims very slow , often backing up into corners and hiding alot.but when I turn their lights out she seems to cruise alot more. As for her color, it looks normal to me, she's as pretty as she's always been.Unless she's sneaking food off the bottom, which I doubt, she still hasn't eaten.
You seem to have hit the nail on the head. Maybe you can guide me to what exactly I should be doing here. These medications you've mentioned are alien to me.
Do you think if I just let her be, theres a chance she might get better on her own?

Thanks so much for your help.....Just great! Have a gr8 day
