Angelfish with Bolivian Ram?

Hello, I have a 20gl tank with a decent amount of plants, one medium sized angelfish, and one BN pleco. I have had this setup for about a month now and it has had no problems. However recently, I decided that it could use another fish. I was thinking about maybe adding 1 Bolivian Ram to the stock. Will these fish be okay together? I know that they can both be territorial fish, and is it going to be a problem that the angelfish has already established it's territory? I want there to be absolutely no aggression in the tank. Also, I've heard that angelfish are normally only aggressive with other angels and fish that they can fit in their mouths. So theoretically, the ram should be fine. Is this true? Anyway, if anyone has any experience, let me know. Thanks.

20g long or tall? If you plant the tank out, add a bunch of caves on the bottom for the ram, and add some dithers like bloodfins or other hardy tetras, then maybe you could do this until the angel reaches adulthood and needs a larger tank. They're both relatively slow moving fish, but not ultimately compatible for long periods in a tank that small.

They will be fine. I have a discus, two angels and 3 Bolivian rams in a tank. Had them for 3-4 years now and they get along just fine. Peaceful tank.

Gilpi, likely your tank is much bigger.

My concern, as I mentioned in your other thread about this, is available space. I don't feel the tank is big enough for both species to thrive

I understand about your tank space and I'm using my example just to let you know that they can coexist in a tank with no problems. Angels can be aggressive but toward each other, Bolivian rams not so aggressive and together they both stay out of each others way. I think your angel would be more of a concern in a 20g since they can get very big.

Either 20g long or high is too small for an adult angel. If you keep it in either it WILL be stunted...smaller body & shorter? fins... but internal organs continue to grow to "full size"...I was given several angels from a 55g (48 x 12 inches, much larger than your tank) & NONE grew to full size in my 75g (48 x 18 inch). They all died early except for 1 smallish (stunted!) female...but I'm not hopeful for her long term survival. I also had 1 blue ram from a friend in w/the angels (smaller than bolivians). They didn't "bother" her...yet she died too young, too...sad.

Live & learn or take our advice, rehome the angel or get a bigger tank very, very soon. Sorry to be harsh, I've been schooled over the years in trial & error. Get fish that fits your tank or get a bigger tank, there's no 2 ways to do it.

A discus, angels, and rams in a 20g would be a horror show, lol >< it's definitely a bigger tank.

Nope. Angels would get too large, lacking room to move and needing excess filtration and water changes. Two rams would probably be okay, but it's just not enough physical space for the fish.
