Hi, I made a video of my angelfish to get a diagnostic :

(dont mind the dog whining in background)

This guy is a survivor of a tank genocide. Only him and an ancitrus pleco survived a case of super-ich and fungus that wiped a whole tank about 1 year ago. I cured him I believe as he is super active, always eager for food and lively.

Only one problem remains, I find his belly to be kinda swollen but I'm not sure if its only me being paranoid. He has been like that for as long as I can remember but I finally decided to post about it. His poo is normal but he does seem to have a slightly protuding anus (You can see it in the end of the video).

Should I treat the tank? I have jungle parasite clear and seachem metroplex on hand but I am hesitant to treat while he's being so normal in behavior.

Here are the spec of my second tank where he lives:
25g
filtration: 2x aquaclear 70
temp: 26.5
ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: Always below 5ppm
ph: 7,5 (tap water is 7 but the substrate I use seem to buffer alot: seachem meridian)
Tankmates: 5 rosy barbs, 4 corydora sterbai, 1 ancitrus pleco(the other survivor)

Thx for your time

Mike

he looks pretty healthy to me.

maybe incorporate bits of deshelled frozen pea (thawed of course) into your feeding regime to help keep your fish from getting constipated (the angel's protruding anal area might mean he's a tad backed up). once a week or so should be good.

Thx for the quick reply!

As a matter of fact I already feed him frozen peas (boiled 4 min) about once or twice a week. The rest of his diet is New Life Spectrum sinking pellets for community fish, Nutrafin Max spirulina flakes, and some other Nutrafin blend for angelfish.

I tried to add some epsom salt as well once but i'm afraid it might raise the GH too much.

nutrafin food, IMO, is junk. take a look at the ingredients. you'll see 'wheat', 'corn', 'middlings', etc listed throughout. then go take a look at the NLS label - much better food.

have you ever tried the Omega One line? i'm very happy with their shrimp pellets and veggie flakes, used to use the cichlid pellets, and will be trying other varieties when i need to pick up more dry foods.

i wouldn't worry about using epsom at all, as long as the angel is healthy, active, eating and pooping ok.

You are right about the nutrafin , it cannot compare to NLS. I checked on big al's and he does sell the Omega one brand. The Omega One freshwater flake ingredient goes like this :

INGREDIENTS: Whole Salmon, Halibut, Black Cod, Whole Herring , Whole Shrimp, Whole Krill, Wheat Flour, Wheat Gluten, Fresh Kelp, Lecithin, Astaxanthin, L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Natural and Artificial Colors, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Folic Acid, Biotin, Inositol, Tocopherol (Preservative),Ethoxyquin (Preservative).

Flour is the seventh ingredient meaning there is alot of good stuff before they start to add fillers =)

now here is the nutrafin max ingredients:

Ingredients: fish meal, fish protein concentrate, corn meal, wheat flour, oatmeal, soy protein concentrate, squid meal, dried spirulina algae, krill, fish liver meal, wheat gluten meal, dried yeast, squid liver meal, shrimp meal, salmon oil (ethoxyquin used as preservative), cochineal extract, dried kelp, hydrolyzed soy protein, tumeric extract, calcium l-ascorbyl-2-monophosphate, wheat germ meal, vitamins (cholecalciferol, biotin, d-calcium pantothenate, folic acid, inositol, niacin supplement, riboflavin-5-phosphate, vitamin a acetate, thiamine hydrochloride, vitamin b12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin e supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin k activity)), choline chloride, dl-methionine, lecithin, yeast extract, fructoologosaccharide, vanillin, fish oil

Alot of crap it seems , i think i will order some omega one and see =)
