okay, so I have never had this happen before.

I have a pair of angelfish. They have spawned 3 times, but no fry.

Normally it is the male that does the chasing, etc.. but for the last 3 days, the female has been acting weird. LOL!! She chases and bites the male angelfish until he is in the corner of the tank. Normally she is sweet.

BTW: She is filled with eggs, and will be spawning again shortly. ( her belly is very plump).

Does anyone know what this behavior means?

Do you think I should sep. the pair for a while? Any suggestions would be great.

curious... are you absolutly POSITIVE you have a male and female? Sometimes 2 females will act like a pair, which may explain why you keep getting eggs, but no fry.

Oh yes. I am positive. The eggs are always fertilized, the male just eats them on the 2nd day which is why I get no fry. I have been breeding angelfish for almost 7 years now. I just wanted to ask because in all my years of breeding angels, I have never seen this. Normally it is always the male chasing the girl. ( mating behavior). I have fry from many of my other pairs, but their behavior has just switched for the last few days.

The female use to be sweet, and laid back, but now she is just mean, and keeps hitting the male until he is in a corner of the tank.

I think she is just mad because he was the one who ate their spawns. Do you think she is taking in out on him for eating all the eggs?

interesting. I don't know enough about angel fish behavior to answer that, but hopefully one of the other members will be able to give some advice. Good luck!

could be the female is not happy with the male.

females may test the males..
you may need to separate the pair for a bit.

I had a black female start do the same thing. She was paired with a smokey super veil and they had spawned several times successfully (one was over 1,000 wigglers!!). I wormed the tank (w/levamisole - a routine thing for me) and with in minutes she started beating the crap out of the male. I tried everything I could to save the pair but I finally had to remove the male. I waited for about a week and they paired her with a koi veil - doing great together. I too have wondered about one getting fed up w/the other for eating the eggs - not sure though.

Unfortunately you may have to break them up for a while and reintroduce him or start fresh w/a new pair.
