In your opinion what is the best plants for Angels? My angels seem to be nibbling and chewing on everything. I can't get them to grow properly because of this, any thoughts?
I've been keeping angel fish all my life and have never had a problem with any plants I've ever kept with them.
What kind of plants are you keeping and are there possibly some other critter(s) in the tank that are doing the damage?
Someimes angels do this when theyy are getting ready to spawn. Not so much "nibbling" as much as "cleaning" and preparing surfaces to lay eggs on. My angels will actually root around leaves nudging thenm quite roughly to make them lay more horizontally. The also mouth the leaves but aren't really eating them. Do you have a breeding pair?
hhmmm. I haven't seen any mating behaviours in any of my 4 angels. I do see them "pick" at the plants though?! See attached. I believe I have anubias, amazon sword, vallisneria, bacopa and some very low light broad leafs (don't know what they are). I am a newbie when it comes to plants.
I thought I fed them a lot already, but maybe I will try for a week with a little more and see what happens. I feed them once a day, flake food, blood worms or beefheart..........a combination of those 3 and sometimes some multi-vit frozen tidbits. They definitely are very eager to eat, so I will try and up the ante for them! :dive2:
hmm, they definitely are eating those plants huh? I feed my pair 2-3 times a day but small portions. It's better for their metabolisim IME. Although, the way they dance for food, it seems as though they'd even go for more. I agree, try upping their intake and see if that doesn't spare your plants some.
you should be fine feeding adult angels 1-2 x per day
I feed mine a bit of flake in the morning then a mix of brine shrimp, bloodworms and mysis. I have breeding pairs and use this mix to condition the pairs.
angels will feed on algae wafers from time to time and nibble on the zuccinni I feed the plecs..hell half the time they steal the wafers from the bn's. so I have to drop in a few more :thud:
Well, I was just feeding them once a day (in the evening) but I think I will change to a few times a day in smaller amounts. It actually seemed to help over just the last couple days. They were only approx. 1" when I got them and they seem to be growing like crazy so maybe they need the food! They sure do "dance" every time I'm near the tank. :dance2:
