I have a single Angel in my 55 with a Gold Ram and some Rummies at the moment. Mine seems content. He (I don't actually know the sex) interacts with the other fish and is friendly to me... will eat from my hand and swims to the surface when ever I am around. Up to this point I have observed no abnormal behavior from him.

a single angel will be fine in the tank.. tho introducing any other angels will prove difficult in the future.

That is a large assumtion to make. With Angels it can depend on the indivduals more than what ever combination of males/females you intend to keep. The only absolutes, IMO, would be to keep a single Angel or mated pair. Anything else has the potential, even if it is unlikely, for aggression issues to develope.
I have 4 angels in 55g for over 8 months and there is some agression when the pair spawns but no where close to indangering the other angels. Right now I know I have a proven pair and I am not sure of the other two since they haven't tried to spawn yet I am thinking that they are females and that thier spawns are taken over by the dominate female.
it is possible to keep more than the pair but you need to be aware that a dominant male will seek out and destroy other males in the tank.

having a lot of cover may help but there are cases where a dominant male will harrass other males constantly.
I have 2 pairs in a 55 and they fight from time to time. but usually only when spawning(which can happen every 2 weeks)

While a 10 gallon won't work well to breed the angels unless they are just barely breeding size. A 20 high will work perfectly. I knew a guy that made his living breeding Angels and then Discus and he used 20 highs for breeding tanks.
I have 4 angels in my 55. See my avatar. One is mammoth (lower right). Those to gold cap marbles breed all the time, and I have a black long fin lace that I put in since the pic. Everyone gets along just fine. The gold caps go off to the left and breed on the leaves of that huge amazon sword and the other two stay to the right.
I would like to add a couple more but the plants kinda dominate the tank and there just isn't enough room. Added some dwarf gouramis instead...
I kept 3 angels in a 55 for about 8 months, and they were getting huge! But last week one of them decided he (or she, don't know) was going to be the only angel and killed the other two within one week. So aggression could be an issue, even with angels that grew up together. My one lone angel seems content and happy to be ruler of the tank now, but I was heartbroken over the loss of my other two.
I just recently bought 2 angelfish, and had trouble with one dying. I would take it back, replace it with another, and it would happen again... I have a 20 gal high btw. Thw water params were spot on, no ammonia, nirites and around 10-15 nitrates. Anyway, the single angel in the tank right now seems to be thriving, not lonely at all! It seems kind of a waste to keep just one fish in a tank this large, but if (s)he's going to kill every tankmate that I try to introduce, I guess it'll be just that angel. Are angels good candidates for other tankmates?
