My angels just spawned yesterday and from what I've read, angels who pair up tend to spawn quite often. I'd like to just leave the eggs alone and let the fish do their thing. There are no threatening fish in the tank (cories and saes) and the angels are caring for the eggs with vigilence. Only 2-3 since yesterday have "died" (white). What can I expect in the next couple of days? I read something to the effect of the parents moving the eggs to the bottom? Right now they're all along the leaf of the plant. If I have cories, it might not be so safe to have the wigglers down there... I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not looking to breed these guys but I wouldn't be opposed to having fry. What is the minimum I can interfere with this process and still encourage fry? Thanks!

Oh, one last thing, as far as sexing, is it the female who has the dark colored nubby thing (sorry don't know the proper name) and the male who has the small opening? :o
 
Your eggs wil most likely disappear before 3 days have passed. Angels tend to eat their first couple of spawns very early. I have two pair that will raise them to free-swimming, and then I siphon them.

They move them from surface to surface around the tank. I have never had mine move eggs to the bottom of the tank though. Downtubes, tops of heaters, sponge filters, driftwood, sometimes glass: those are your potential areas.
 
I bought them mature so I don't know it it's their first spawn. The only eggs they seem to be removing are the dead ones.
 
It's your first experience with a spawn.

you can let them do what comes naturally. the cories may try to eat the eggs or wigglers. they would most likely be vulnerable at night.
generally the parents will take care of the eggs, remove dead eggs if possible ..about 3 days from when they were laid the eggs will become wigglers..the parents usually move the wigglers as they turn. and place them in another portion of the tank..did you notice them cleaning a second spot in the tank?

I would try not to get too intimate and watch them a lot..they may percieve it as a threat and eat the eggs/fry.

if they move the wigglers to a second spot and they are able to protect them..the wiggler in three days(appprox) will become freeswimmers. this is where you may need to supply a food source the the freeswimmers.

generally in a community tank the fry won't make it.

I have a tank with angels I remove fry (if I want to raise any) when they get to either wiggler or freeswimmer.

the spawns have a better chance if you move the pair to a breeding tank.

angels will generally spwan about every two weeks.
 
thanks star_rider! I knew you'd chime in angel expert!;) Yeah, I know, I'm a spawn virgin lol! So why wouldn't the fry survive? They'd ALL be eaten? What makes a spawning tank a spawning tank? NO other fish besided the parents and the fry? I actually did notice them fussing around in a different area of the tank....interesting! So if I leave them alone, they'll probably all be eaten or die? I do have a ten gal that I would make available to the fry if it goes that far...Thanks for the info!!
 
actually if you leave them alone they may be fine.

the problem is with other tank mates..the others may eat them or if it gets overwhelming for the parents, they may eat them.

if thay have a lot of cover they may be able to isolate the fry in a heavily planted section of the tank.

easier to defend.

watch the angels from a distance..if you put your face up to often they may see this as a threat and eat the fry..

I had a spawn once that I thought the eggs. wigglers had been eaten..4 days later here are the parents and out from a heavy planted section..out pops 20-30 freeswimmers..that section had algae I suspect the fry were feeding on something in there..I still have 4 of those fry ..all about quarter size and healthy.

how you proceed depends on what you want to accomplish. if you aren;t intent on rasigin angels..I would let this spawn go under the care of the parents..watch what they do..sometimes you get great parents that will raise the fry till they look like little angels.

my angels tend to raise the fry till they are ready to spawn again..they will eat the freeswimmers at that stage..I decided to try my had at raising the freeswimmers a few months ago..so I pulled about 6-10 freeswimmers 4 have survived.(ones that I decided to keep)

I do pull fry just but I'm out of tank space at the moment.
I have not yet pulled any more since I need more tanks to attempt raising angels..once they get to free swimmers all you need to do is keep clean water and food(BBS) .

I do have a pair that I will pull some fry from on the next spawn..or I will move the pair to a breedeing tank with only the pair in it.

less threatening and they tend to raise the fry longer. in these tanks.(you will most likely still need to pull them tho)
 
Well, I have wigglers and so far the parents have been extremely attentive to their young. After hatching this morning, the wigglers have been carefully moved by the parents to a leaf right over the air stone where they were watched all day. About an hour and a half ago, they were again transported to yet another leaf closer to the front and more horizontally situated. So I guess in about three more days they will become free swimmers. What I'm not sure about it how and what exactly to feed them. I think I'd like to keep them with the parents as long as possible although I do have a 10 gal with 4 panda cories available for the fry. If I don't provide special food for the freeswimmers will they definitely starve? Can someone guide me for the next step? I wasn't even expecting the eggs to last but here I am! Kind of exciting....
