Hello Everyon,
This is my first post. I have four anglefishes. I noticed that the first anglefish has red, almost looks like a cut at the base of both pectoral fin. Today I noticed my second anglefish also has it too. All four are about 6 inches and i do not want to loose them.
I added Pimafix yesterday and also increased the temperature to around 32 degrees centigrade. Today I change about a 1/4 of the water as well. Both do not seem to be eating and just hanging around in the corner. Is there anything else i can do?
Thanks everyone.

32C is approx 90F. That is too high, not to mention increase in temp for your symptoms may be more harmful to your fish.

If you suspect cut/lesion, higher temp will promote growth of fungus/most bacteria.

Only time you should raise temp is when you know your fish are suffering from Ich.

Few pics possible as well as today's and prev pH/NH3/NO2??? What size tank & their tankmates if any?

Cerianthus, thanks for the reply. I have reduced the temp. I took a water sample to the pet store an dthey checked it and all is well. Tank is 36 x16 24. Tank mates are 2 other angles, 2 bala sharks, mixed swords and variety of loaches. I will try and take pics and upload. Thanks

Any other symptoms? You have about 60 G if those dimension are in inches.

Provided that lfs testing is correct, would you happened to remember what the pH was? You should have your own test kits asap.

It is difficult to precisely pinpoint and strongly doubt the following but google Philometra sanguinea for comparison(unfortunately no known cure if memory serves).
PLS DOnt jump to conclusion and euthanize any since we dont really know what it is.

Dont mean to be PIB but can you provide close up pics of base of fin?

How long did you have them? They are not small. Perhaps med to large size?

This also can be a typical symptom of diseases caused by many different types of bacteria (most likely).

DO you have any antibiotic? What kind if any?

Thanks for the feedback. The tank is about 79.9 gallons (48 inches x 16 inches x 24 inches). After posting this, I changed the 25% of the water, cleaned the gravel using siphon and added clean water (made the water safe of course) and added Pimafix and some aquarium salt. After that I noticed the red seem to have disappeared from the black one, but the other one still has it. Both quite and not active as they normally are. They are large size fish. The only antibiotic that the store recommended was Pimafix.
I do have my own test kit the readings are:GH120, KH80, pH7.0, NO2 is 0, NO3 is 0
I will take some close up pictures. Also will check out Philometra.

Thank you all for your help.

Thanks for the feedback. I checked ammonia levels and they are close to zero as I had changed the water and cleaned the gravel today. I am hoping that in the next day or so things should improve. Cheers.

Cove, is there any chance these red areas were the result of some sort of injury? Is there anything in the tank sharp enough that they could have damaged themselves by running into it or rubbing against it? The other possible cause of injury is aggression or nipping...what is the usual behavior between these two, or any tankmates? Have you ever noticed any activities that could lead to damage?

They both certainly look big enough to breed. Do you have any idea of their genders, or have they ever done the chasing/lip locking/charging sort of breeding behaviors?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I have been monitoring the tank and have not noticed any aggression with other tank mates. Also I have not observed any lip locking etc. I taken some more pics as best as I could. I have researching on the web and most suggest using maracyn and maracyn2. The black angle is now at the surface and seems a little bloated but still not eating. The striped angle is now not eating and the base of the pectoral fins seems more redder than yesterday. I will now put them in my hospital tank and try using Maracyn. Any other suggestions anyone??
