I have a community 29 gallon tank. I just added a large freshwater angel and it won't eat. I have special cichlid pellets and everything. He acts like he wants to eat, goes after the food, but it's almost like he smells it and decides that it won't taste good so he backs away. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I have a juvenile angelfish and I feed her regular flake food. I tried everything and was in the same situation as you, she would turn her nose to it. Give that a try and see what happens.

I'm sure that others have some good advice as well.

How long has the angel been in the tank.

sometimes an angel won't eat too soon after being introduced to a new environemtn...sometimes it's a good idea not to feed them right away anyway.

daphnia, blood worms, brine shrimp..angels love these all.

angels sometimes need a day or two to settle in..some angels eat right away..they are fine if they don't eat for a day or two.

I have had an angel (adult)not eat for three weeks when they were battling internal parasites..if they are healthy to begin with they have fat stroes .
if the angel is a small one (baby) it's best if they eat soon..but even they can go for a day or two.

you could also cal the place where you got your angel and ask them what they were feeding.

when introducing new foods..sometime they don't take to it right away..they haven't figured out it's food.

When I got my angels as babies, it took days before they would eat. You could try soaking the food in a little bit of garlic juice. There are foods out there which contain garlic just for this reason. Garlic also helps keep away internal parasites which plague angels and discus.
