I have just filled my 46 gallon bow front tank as of christmas day. I Have an emperor 400 HOB filter. I have the normal marineland carbon acitvated filters for the filter, but i also have 2 media baskets. Could i put fish food or something in those baskets to help the cylcing of the tank?

you say i really dont need to. Do i just let it run without the baskets or something?

I would put filter media in them. Sponge filter or filter floss for mechanical filtration, and ceramic rings or something like that for beneficial bacteria to establish itself on. Carbon does not help cycle. Carbon is used to remove meds, water impurities and polish water.
