my lfs recommended using Sparkling Clear in my 10g tank. it looks like there's dust size particles floating about. the water also looks mildly cloudy. he said it clumps floaters and allows for better filtration. i am using a primo 100 filter.

any opinions?

thanks.

My experience is that this kind of stuff usually doesn't help, at least not enough to make it worthwhile. It won't cure things like 'new tank syndrome' or overfeeding nor will it replace regular water changes with gravel vacs. I've also heard of some fish or other creatures having adverse reactions to 'tank clearing drops' but I don't know about the specific brand you mentioned.

I have to agree with Frank on this one. I don't like adding anything much to the tank. Sort of the KISS principle. Your filter ought to be able to pull stuff out of the water that is floating in the water. What is a Primo 100, anyway? The LFS guy may have thought it better to recommend a product like this at a couple of bucks than a new filter that would cost much more and so was trying to save you money...

general rule of fish keepers: dont buy quick fix chemicals unless you have to.

in this case, you should let your tank run a while and wait for it to clear. Crystal clear also doesnt need to be an objective in a tank. Its just desirable for viewing.
