Antibiotic medicated food?

Does anyone know of a good antibiotic medicated food? I have seen many kinds in the pelleted form, and my fish don't like those as well as flakes. So, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good, effective antibiotic medicated flake food, and where I can find it on the internet? Any recommendations?

I think the only fish that will eat that food are goldfish. Only because they will eat anything they can fit in their mouths.

Buy some tetracycline gel -- it's called "Gel Tek" and mix it with their regular food. You're supposed to be able to feed it to fish how it is, but mine won't touch it. They will eat the food I doctor with it, however.

Crumble up some flakes really fine and mix it with the gel. Make sure it's mostly flakes and not gel. Then drop it bit by bit into the tank.

See how that works. The bonus with it is that you will know what you are giving the fish. Those pellets have no ingredients listed (Jungle brand, right? Hate that company) and you really have no clue what "anti-whatever" you are feeding the fish.

what are you trying to treat? hikari prazi pro works well if your looking for medication.

What kind of medication? You can mix almost any meds with frozen foods. PraziPro and Metronidazole are easy to mix with frozen foods. You can also treat with garlic, or garlic soaked foods.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried to mix my flakes and frozen food with antibiotics, but it seems like such a hassel to do, and the fish will only eat it sometimes. It is as if they can taste the medication on it, and then don't like it. And, I never know for sure if I am adding the right amount of meds to the food or not. It can clump together when I add it to the tank and then the smaller fish won't touch it and only the bigger fish eat it. I guess with flake, you are suppose to mix the meds with water, spray or mist it over the flake, let it dry again, and then feed it. That is just a huge headache and I don't know of anybody that would do that. I just thought buying a pre-medicated flake would work best.

I see that Jhemco offers on-line a Metro-flake and a Romet-flake. The metro flake has metronidazole in it, which I was hoping I could get my discus and angelfish to eat since I have the most trouble with them getting hexamita (which metro is very effective against). At the same time, I thought it would be good to have an antibiotic flake on hand for fish that have bacterial problems, like hemmorahagic septimia (which I have seen on occasion in the tank). I posted earlier that I think some of my tetras have myxobacteriosis, which causes blackish colored spots or patches on their bodies. The fish appear fine, and are still eating, but antibiotics and different things I have tried adding to the water have no effect on it. So, I thought maybe I should try some treated flake that they will take and bring in internally to fight it. I thought there was maybe a better chance of curing it that way. Especially since it is only a few fish in the tank that are affected by it, I don't want to try to treat the whole tank for something. (also, I have tried treating them separate in a Q-tank but once again, no success with adding meds to the water). Now, one fish that is almost too big and skiddish to be put in a Q-tank looks like he has some patches. So, I thought treated food would be a better idea. I guess if I have to try mixing my own again, I can but is such a hassel to do everytime I feed them. I thought the treated flake would be more dosage correct and easier to do.

If anyone has any idea about any meds that would be effective against myxobacteriosis, please post them! I am currently trying a combo I found recommended on a website--Furan 2, Naladixic Acid, and metronidazole. So, it is an antibiotic combo followed by an anti-parasitic. I have been trying this combo for 4 days and haven't seen any difference yet. I know that Phenocide by Aquatronics (no longer available) was made specifically for myxo and contained the above 3 things, salt, and Neomycin Sulfate. Neomycin is the only one I haven't tried yet because I heard it can wreck your biological filter, and I didn't want to go thru that headache. Any suggestions on either other meds to try or other medicated foods to consider?

I'm sure the meds can taste pretty bad. Adding garlic to the food as well can help mask the taste and make it more attractive for the fish to eat.

Do you mash a clove of garlic and then mix it with meds and food all together? Do the fish really like garlic? I have never tried it, but I guess I have garlic at home and could give it a shot. What different ailments in fish is garlic suppose to be good for?

You can do it that way. You can also buy liquid garlic at the LFS. Mix up a good sized batch of food, using a few drops of garlic as well as the prescribe amount of meds. Frozen foods work well, I don't know how to do it with flakes...and, as you mentioned earlier, the process sounds like a hassle. Let the food marinate in the meds and garlic for a while (refrigerated). Store it longer term in a freezer bag in the freezer (flatten it out to make a thin layer of food), and just break off enough food for feeding...thaw it in a glass of tank water.

Garlic has antibiotic and antioxidant effects...its just as good for fish as for humans! So it can help with treating disease, and keep the digestive tract healthy.

Has anyone used Romet flakes? Do they seem to help with bacterial infections? I know they contain sulfamethoxine and ormetoprim sulfa for meds. What has anyone had any success curing with them?

I sued to use Tetra Medicated flake food and it worked fine for me. I haven't gotten it in quite some time but they used to come in a small white Tetra jar with a red top.
