I had a really bad out break of ick in my tank. I think it was ick, after the fish had some slimey grayish stuff on thier bodies it developed into zillions of white spots then they diedb. The gudgeon is very listless and occasionally rubs himself on the gravel in a rather violent manner. He only will eat bloodworms but woun't go out of his way to get them (at least he eats something) He also has clamped fins. A swordtail also was rubbing herself on some objects today. I can see a spot on the gudgeon but it is the same color as his skin. I thought it was ick when it happened so I treated them with maracide. I kind of did it in a panic, I lost all powers of reasoning. I don't want to move him to a hospital tank now because it is only 5 1/2 gallons, my 10 gallons is filled with baby kribbies. I dont want to stress him more then he is. Any ideas how to save him would be apprieciated.

You'll have to treat all the inhabitants of that tank for ectoparasites. There are two main kinds, single-celled parasites like Ich ("protozoans") and the trematodes, called skin flukes and gill flukes, which are a kind of microscopic flatworm ("animals").

Some medications will eliminate both.

I thought so

I started doing that anyway thinking that was the right course of action. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't misdiagnosing it. The gudgeon is starting to get better I think.

I thinks he's going to make it.

He's swimming around more and eating a little better. He's not out of the woods yet but he's improved. he is really the coolest fish I have ever had.
