I am hopeing to use Black Beauty sand in a few of my aquariums. But I have heard bad things about it,.... and good things. So am hopeing a few of you can tell me how it worked out in your cichlid tanks.

Thank you.

The sand is in rather small particles. So I'm not sure what you mean by If you had digging fish, you should sort through the gravel looking for sharp and stick-like pieces that may break and form sharp pieces.. Are you talking about particularily large peices? Maybe you had used Black Beauty Gravel, where as I have Black Beauty Sand?

Anyone else?

I have and am using it .

So far I'm happy with it - it looks good and is cheap and I can't say it has caused problems of any kind in almost a year.

the only drawback is that mulm shows against the jet black substrate and it is a chore to keep clean.

I have it....sitting in a bag on my floor begging to be put in my 20g, I'll let you know my experiences in a few weeks when it makes it's way into the tank

my loaches will LOVE me for it, I bet
