Any (classical) pianist here?

I've been taking piano lessons since I was 8. Unfortunately, I didn't learn all the things I should have from my first teacher so I started fresh with a new one. (She's got to be one of the best piano teachers in the world!) My problem is that practicing has become somewhat of a chore, (horrible, I know) and I'm not going anywhere fast. I really do enjoy it and want to keep up with it, but I have to fight really hard to keep it in my schedule.

My 16 year old son started playing just before he was 7. He was only playing for about 3 months when his teacher taught him the first page of Fur Elise...he like the song so much he begged the guy to give him the rest of it. His teacher dropped off the other two pages on Thurs....and by the time he came back on Mon for the lesson....Matt had those pages down pat !! Swavik just about hit the floor...lol...

He has a talent for it and it has come easy to him all these years...but sadly, he's lost interest and we've finally stopped the lessons. I'm pretty sad about that....but he did benefit in so many other ways and I'll never regret the money spent. (my husband might...lol...but I never will..) Right now he wants to buy himself an electric guitar... Whatever instrument he chooses, he'll do good with and the piano is a fantastic base !

Too bad for your son, EMG, but good luck to him on the guitar. You should really encourage his musical aspirations.

MargieMay, when I first started, practicing was also horrible for me. I practiced for perhaps ten minutes twice a day. But for the past few years, I've practiced an average of perhaps 2 hours a day, and I love it! Good luck to you.

I started as a flautist and had to play piano in college. I sucked (still do) as far as the class was concerned, but I loved playing bach (simple stuff that played one hand at a time like that prelude whose number I forget) and composing stuff with insteresting chord progressions. I bought a whole bunch of bach and chopin to get back into it, but now I have carple tunnel issues:(

Oh well not to be a sob story! I love the piano, so nice to have something you don't have to go out and get an accompanist for! I am frustrate because flute is so easy for me to play well, while I have to work at piano. Any suggestions for fun practicing stuff?

I LOVE to play that piano! My FAVORITE piece is Fur Elise. I think it is really beautiful!

Oh I do..whenever I can...he has a gift, just doesn't appreciate it...and right now he's at that age where anything mom and dad are for.....he's against...lol...so I try not to show too much enthusiasm at any interest he takes in any instrument...lol....the high wire balancing act..I should go on tour !
