Simply the idea of buying fish through the mail seems...weird to me, but obviously a lot of people are doing it.

The guys at www.saltwaterfish.com seem to have an impressive collection of fish at good to great prices. The question is: is this a good way to buy fish? Do they make it to your house in decent shape and not completely stressed to the max?

Has anyone bought this way? Good or bad experiences?

thanks!

I have bought fish and inverts online many times. For me, the big hassle is being at home or getting to the FedEx office on a work day.

We just did a group order from SWF about a month ago. The livestock looked good, but they didn't seem to be as fast at getting them out as places like Inland Aquatics or Premium Aquatics. Took a few days before the shipment went out.

I would be hesitant to order anything live during the winter. I have never ordered live but if I would I would wait till it's warmer out.

how do you think pet stores get them? maybe not an online vendor but they get mailed to the store.

I understand that. I would still be hesitant to order during the winter. I would think the store would be easier because they are there at a set time every time. Me, I never know where or when I'll be.

I have done this once

As already said, the trick is being home-you HAVE to be there to take delivery and sign or any guarantee they offer is void

I have a flexible job so I thought NO PROBLEM!

Called in the order as early as possible on Mon morning and arranged to do home office on TUES

No fishies by late Tues so I called and they hadnt even gotten to it. They were planning to ship that afternoon but no way could I be there WED so I asked them to ship Wed and was home Thurs

It worked well and everything was great-my flame hawk was far more brilliant than most at the stores and 'small' was plenty big. The hermits/snails were also good sized. I saved quite a bit of money

I think there is also an option to have FedEx hold them at their facility and you go pick them up there but, again, knowing when they actually ship is an issue and a phone call will beat an online order(as much as I like online ordering)

I used Jeff's Exotic Fish. Its not a glitzy site but the prices are good-the Halloween hermit I got is actually more of what I see called "orange kneed" and super active-awesome price. The live rock WAS NOT impressive at all but 5 lbs? Oh well-cant win them all

It was not overly cold about a month ago but I was amazed at how the styrofoam cooler kept the water right where it should be

I would be nervous with temps in the 20s though
