I have used ammo lock. It works. It does not remove ammonia from your tank, it transforms it into a non toxic form that will still be removed by your bio filter. I don't reccomend using this except in emergency situations. Like fully stocking a tank before you cycle it because you didnt know any better, or because your biofilter suddenly crashes on an established tank.
Regular liquid ammonia test kits will not work to give you a reading of the toxic to fish form of ammonia in your tank. These test kits test total ammonia. You will need an ammo alert that hangs in your tank or something of the sorts to see if the ammonia in your tank is the toxic to fish form.
I suggest if you are using this product, it does not take the place of water changes to reduce the ammonia levels in your tank, but is used as an aid to you to keep the ammonia levels in acceptable range as your tank cycles (@ or >.25) . In the end..its not going to do a thing for the nitrite spike you will have as well.
