Any plant can float at the surface?

My 55g is all plastic plants right now. I am interested in trying out a live plant, but would like something that will float at the top. The LFS said any plant will survive floating at the top as long as its roots are in the water.

I understand the lighting and co2 needs, but is the LFS guy correct?

Thanks.

I've heard water sprite works well for this.

hornwort and brazilian pennywort are good for this. in theory, you can probably do just about any plant like this, but for a lot fo them you won't get nice plants. heavy rooters like swords will not thrive and you'll get some weird looking plants that may eventually die off. anachris and green mylo can both float as well, but they won't look as nice.

I've a couple plants that got ripped up and didn't have very good roots and wouldn't stay in the gravel, so I've been letting them float... they've become sort of twisted up, but they do have roots now after several weeks, and I'll probably try to plant them soon and hope they straighten up... :) I'm going on the theory of "if it's still green, it's still alive" and letting it try to recover itself.

Ugh...what is with you people? Do you guys have magical java moss? Java moss does not float. And by float I mean at the surface of the water. You drop some moss in the water and it will float slowly down to the bottom, sit on the substrate, and possibly get pushed around by the current, thereafter. Maybe this is what you meant, but to someone who has never had it and doesn't know any better it sounds awful misleading.

Amazon frogbit is a nice floating plant, as is watter lettuce.
