Ok so you feed em once a week but how much? Also I read an article where its best to keep them with the room temp since it helps them adjust and figure out the different seasons there in which will help keep them healthy and help them know when its time to mult. Also females were said to be able to live 15-20yrs maybe more where as males live a way shorter life since they pass away after mating.
Hey GEV, you feed them once a week, and at first it is trial and error, you are going to want a cricket keeper, just in case. Some, like my rose, will eat 6 crickets at a time, some only 2, it just depends. Put a few in, if they eat them all, add another 2, if they eat that, add another and you can guess where thats going! Count the crickets, and you have your answer for how many. Also, you may want to take the legs off the crickets because tarantulas can't jump, and the bigger crickets will elude them. That's what I do at least. Ummm, they will eat a lot just before a molt, then they will eat nothing until they are done molting. After their molt, they are testy and very hungry, so feed before you handle after they molt. It is best to keep them at room temp *
unless they are molting!* they need the moisture/humidity to molt!! If she molts, and there are pieces stuck that the spider can't get off, you have to help, but you want to use TONGS to do this, otherwise you will get bitten. I have been bitten twice. Not fun.
Handleable is a relative term. If it is a good day for the spider, meaning they are not hungry, or close to a molt, they should be docile, but if you disturb them while starting to molt or when they are hungry or making their web, it's not so good lol.
Also, you will def want a female, and do not disturb her web. If you do she will be very upset. Use tongs to take out the dead cricket carcasses, and only try to handle if she is out and about, do not disturb her web, or her when she is in her web. Ummm, anything else you want to know? Just ask!
