I am hoping that somebody here will help me identify my catfish. I have 2 of them in my 55 gal., and they were sold to me as pictus....Which I am pretty sure that they are not. I would really like to know what kind they are, especially to know if I can keep them. They are awfully skittish, and are always hiding. It took me about a week of trying to get one good picture of them. Please Help!!!!

Definitely NOT a pictus cat, but it is in the same ballpark. Looks like what Axelorod's Atlas calls a Pimelodus clarias. He says keep a pH of 7.0, it grows to 30 cm (10-13 inches). Most cats of this type are sensitive to ich outbreaks. Hope you have a 55 gallon or better if you plan to keep them to full adult size. Feed them some bloodworms or live blackworms and they'll quickly learn to come out of hiding when you show up.

Yes...it is a 4 line pimelodeos. I was just checking them out at my LFS today.

Why did my suggestion of it being a 4-lined pictus get erased? Oh well, yea, i think its a 4 lined pictus
