I bought some celebes rainbows and some "dwarf rainbows" @ the LFS a few days ago. I can't seem to find this "dwarf rainbow" in any of my books... Do any of you recognize it?

(note that the tank is bare only because I'm cleaning my main tank and I needed something larger than a 2g bucket to hold my fish, so I just bought another 10g to hold them while I work on the main one...)

If I had to pick one... and I'm not the greatest species labeller on the planet... I'd pick Melanotaenia Caerulea.

But I'm notoriously bad at picking the right species of any fish :)

Hmm... yeah. They could be. It's not helped by the fact that they only had one male, and I couldn't get a good shot of it. The females are somewhat less colorful, and probably even more so because they're really not very happy in that bare tank like that... when I get the other tank set up with the plants and everything I'll try to get a better pic...

I agree about them being Melanotaenia praecox. Shiny blue bodies, red fins in males, orange in females. I have seen them called dwarf or neon rainbows in shops.

hmm... yeah, they look a lot like the praecox rainbows. The colors are somewhat less intense, but then, as I said, that's probably because they're stressed from being in a bare holding tank right now...
