Besides the fish, cats, dog, and reptiles, I recently added 2 eight week old parakeets to the zoo. A blue and a pied. Hopefully the blue is a male and the pied is a female but they are still too young to be 100% sure. In another few months, I be able to tell when the cere changes color.

Anyone else keep birds?

I used to have a blue parakeet when I was a kid,His name was Pookey. All you had to do to get him to come to you,was hold your index finger in the air,and he would fly right over.I had Pookey for eight years, and sadley he died.I like your birds, they are cute.

:D I Do!!!

I have Ducky a Blue Pacific Parrotlet and Avery a Timneh African Grey. I love those two boys! Both are excellent talkers too. Ducky tends to mimick mostly but I swear sometimes I have complete conversations with Avery.

I also foster unwanted pet birds until suitable homes can be found. So much fun and so far I have resisted the urge to keep them all. Avery is a rescue and SO worth the extra effort it took to get him healthy and trusting of humans. He is the cuddliest African Grey I have ever met and highly bonded to me.

Your budgies are just darling. My daughter has been begging for one she thinks they are just way to cute. I think I have my hands full with what we have.

I also breed chickens and there are 50+ members of poultry in the backyard and my prize Silkie gal thinks she belongs in the house. Yep....I'm a birdbrain! LOL :p:

I don't have any..but I got my mom a cockatiel. Very smart bird! We "birdsat" once, and Dukie tried to get the cage, so we don't do that anymore :(

Yours are very pretty, swreefer! ...or should I say handome for the boy :)

I have a Rainbow Lory who can be a handful at times but only because of his crazy playful antics. He does have one fault though, he doesn't like anyone but me. Bites pretty hard too... but he's about 1 or so and trying to break this has proved to be quite a task. He will go to someone if they have fruit for him to nibble on but that's it. He likes to roam around the house (while I watch of course) and if I go hiding from him, he always finds me. The saints even leave him alone. He's a tough little guy and I guess our bond is obvious. I also have a cockatiel I adopted from someone who "didn't realize their upkeep  ", but she is a great little girl. She's a pied/pearl cross and such a difference from the lory. She's a lot lighter and a lot less abrassive. Their cages are in the same room and to hear them mimic each other is funny. The lory has even gotten to the point where he mimic's the tiel's scream and often gets her in trouble because of it :D I wish I could let them play together but I just don't trust the Lory enough. So the cage apart is perfect.

We use to have birds. There was a time when my husband had a Alexandrian and I had a Quaker (1 of 4) that use to have their cages opposite each other in our dining room. (one on each side of a doorway leading to our kitchen) My hubby use to tell my Quaker she was a "Crazy Bird" because she would shake her head and make all sorts of sounds when he would walk by to get his attention. After awhile when she did that his bird "Fat Bird" would call Dazie Mae "Crazy Bird". Also when the kids walked by he would tell them to "Get Upstairs". I guess I must have said that alot..lol They can be great mimics.

They are very personable and sometimes have their favorites in the family. We have been owned by alot of birds through the years from a Umbrella Cockatoo who had run of the house from dawn to dusk down to budgies who laid clutches constantly even though we tried to discourage it. We no longer keep birds due to allergies. They do bring alot of joy.

We have two carnivorous peach-faced lovebirds. The people at the emergency room suggest I stop trying to pet them; well, more of a threat to tell the insurance co. that the next time I come in with missing fingers it's a pre-existing condition, than a suggestion. They were given to us by a breeder who apparently kept them in a plywood box and fed them through a hole in the side, as they seemed never to have had contact with humans before. We've had them for almost a year now. Found out why the breeder named the male Sneaky. He can pick locks and, I swear, undo screws. So about once a week he and I play Chase The Bird. On the upside, I found an actual use for a 16" aquarium net.
The breeder told us they are ten years old now, and can live to be as old as 35. Do lovebirds lose their teeth when they get old? I hope so because they have fangs like a Tiger shark now. Maybe when we're both old he'll let me handle him without welding gloves on and we can sit down and have a nice, long talk about why he was so nasty to me all those years and why I still kept feeding him.

We've got a cockatiel named Kramer. We took him in from friends who just up and decided "he was too much trouble to take with them" when they moved  Of course, she was also going to flush all of her fish until I said I'd take them to the petstore for her

Anywho, since we've had him, he's gotten SO much better. He used to be afraid of people. Now he lets me scritch his back and tummy...we're still working on the head. One of his favorite things to do is shower with me - it's so cute.

Once we get a house I want to get some bigger birds, parrots/cockatooes, etc. The people we got our big tank from had an amazing cockatoo....she was beauuuutiful. Of course, they let her fly around whenever she wanted and she made it over the neighbors yard a few times.

I just don't understand some people!

I thought this was gonna be a thread about Charlie Parker. :D

Peace...
