If the economy were better and the unemployment rate werent so high, I'd have quit months ago. It's getting to the point that I want to quit reguardless if I can find other work.

They cut our hours to 32 and laid off some key people, giving everyone more work. With less hours and more work its hard just to do your job description. Of course they cant give you a raise because there have been layoffs & the company is struggling so what the heck do you do? And it's not even that- its the absolute disfunction of the company that is pushing me away. I no longer believe in it- but I can't go anywhere else.

This has to be taking years off my life and adding rinkles like crazy.

Stress sucks.

LOL, I know things are hard right now, and in my case around the end of Oct and beginning of Nov I am going to have to take off for maternity leave and the small company that I work for are not helping in anyway. They feel that I should come right back to work with in 24 hrs of having the baby. I am so mad at them right now that I wish that my husband and I had the money for me to just quit and tell them where to stick it but we don't so I will just have to continue to pinch every penny we get in order for me to have some kind of money during my maternity leave, b/c I can't put all the bill pressure on my husband for 6-12 weeks. So I am trying to spring clean, garage sale, ebay sell, and every other way to make some kind of income on top of the weekly paycheck from this hell hole.

Bet you more than anything though when I am off for my maternity leave I will be looking around for another job to replace this one. I just pray that I can find one, so I can tell these creeps to stick it.

I work in Automotive aftermarket , specifically Pickup Trucks :( I am home right now due to the slowdown at work. Everyday when I am at work is like hoping the job continues to the next day . I have worked for the same company for about 25 years and never have been in this sorry of a situation :( I wish I could just quit to relieve the stress. Some days seem fine but most lately don't.

I lost my job on December 28th of last year. The job market sucks and its not getting any better. When/If a position does pop up in my field, its at a much lower pay rate than what I was making before the lay off and even when I apply and follow up, I still get no call backs because so many people have been applying. I go to job fairs where there is a line at least a block long and wait in line for my turn to no avail. People who are overqualified and out of work are taking up the underpaid positions as they become available. Unemployment insurance is running out soon and Ive spent up about half my savings already.

Be glad for what you have, a lot of others have it much worse than you do.

I'm in the same boat. I've always followed saying "Its easier to find a job when you have a job." I've been looking for a few months now and I've noticed that just having a job gets you in the door quicker than not.

Good luck in your search!

PS: Stress does suck!

I feel for you Viva..I'm in the same boat. They let most people go here, cut out our 401K matching, took away raises and bonuses and piled twice as much work on the people left here. I actually think of the people that lost their jobs as the "lucky" ones. Plus I work in technical support, so everyone I talk to all day long is angry because their equipment is down. I'm almost ready to tell someone that I have enough of my own problems and I really no longer care about theirs...if I didn't need the healthcare coverage, I would have been gone by now.

I'm lucky that I'm in school until Dec. but my boyfriend is graduating with his Masters at the end of the May and he has applied to hundreds of jobs (Federal and otherwise) and has only gotten 2 interviews, both of which he didn't get the job. I can't tell you how many thin letters we've gotten back "We found you are qualified for the position but you are not the most qualified person." He has no real experience because he hasn't worked before but he does worked part-time through school doing exactly the same work as the jobs he is applying for. It sucks going and getting your masters just to be told you aren't qualified for entry level positions in the field you've been trained for. If anyone knows of any towns/cities/counties hiring planners/policy analysts/economic development/ or downtown partnership positions please let me know.

The real kicker is the state is in a hiring freeze but we just found out the office of management and budget (where my boyfriend did an internship for but didn't ask them for a job because of the hiring freeze) just hired one of the graduating master's students in a back room, unpublicized deal for a non-essential position. She's not the most qualified person for the position and only got the job because someone owed someone else a favor. Normally when one of the students gets a job like that, the department loves to toot its own horn, but this time no ones talking about it. I hate politics.

"Who" you know is often more important than "what" you know. It is unfortunate, but true in a lot of cases.
