Where do you shop for fish/plants/etc? I've had great luck with Tropical Isle in Framingham. They are super knowledgeable and have a huge selection of fish and plants!! They are by far the best place I've found, but it's a little bit of a hike from Framingham. Just wondering if there were other places that are good, too.

Sorry, that's supposed to say a bit of a hike from Cambridge! Duh. :duh:

Western Mass. here. We have some good LFS, but they really only carry the basics. The best is Exotic Fish and Pet World in Hadley. Very knowledgeable and will special order almost anything. We also have James Tropical Fish in Springfield, who are usually really good but as of lately haven't been getting alot of choices in. Unfortunately as a beginner planted tank aquarist, no stores really carry a good selection of plants.

Other than that we have Walmart, which have really bad tanks around here, and Petco, again, not the greatest.

The best chain store I've been to is Petsmart down in Ct. They have excellent selection and carried some rare replacement parts for my filter that I looked all over for and was about to order online.

The place in Framingham has a pretty good selection of plants and I like it b/c they actually know what type each is. :) Petco sold me three plants and couldn't tell me what they were. Just "plants".

Tropica Isle is one of the best. Uncle Ned's in Milton is the second best in my opinion, its a smaller store so u don't have a huge selection but Uncle Neds has fish you have a hard time finding anywhere else. They also carry bumble bee, blue, and amano shrimp. They have a limited offering of plants but they are big plants and very healthy and still not the boring ones you'd find at petco/petsmart. Also good is Skipton's in Boston. Its in Dorcester, or near Dorcester I believe. All Things Fishy in Marlborough will sometimes carry harder to find fish species and plants and they have a huge selection of used tanks/stands. But its far from you and the first three are much more worth your while.

Cool, thanks! I love Tropical Isle... every time I go, I seem to spend forever just walking around looking at all the tanks! And the people are great! I just have to dedicate a whole afternoon to going there! :)

Tropic Isle is the best, hands down.

Their equipment prices are a bit higher than the local Petsmart, but they have a much larger selection and the best livestock and plants in Eastern Mass. I used to travel from Somerville just to go there.

Unfortunately, I've recently moved to Philadelphia, and I must say I miss Tropic Isle terribly.

Sweet! I really didn't think there was a better place to go, but was wondering if there might be somewhere closer! I think I'm going to continue the drive to Tropical Isle! I have to say that every time I go, I want a bigger tank to make room for all the cool stuff they have :D

Where is Tropical Isle? Route 9 or 30? I usually go to the place in Saugus on Route 1 (name escapes me right now) or a place in Salem, NH--Seaworld.
