Anyone know how to use photoshop ???

I have this photoshop program and about the only thing I know how to do with it is resize and crop images !! (what a waste of a good program...lol)

I'm trying to figure out how to cut out a section of a picture and insert it onto/into another picture....can anyone help me out with this...I've already tried reading the "HELP" option....they write those explanations out as if I know what they heck they're talking about !!

I managed to use the lasso tool to draw around the area in the picture I want to use...but I can't figure out how to cut it out of that pic and then insert it onto another picture.

I'm thinking I need to use the layering tool or something, but really have no idea !

I don't have it on my comp anymore so I can't confirm, but there may be a "cut" option if you go up to the edit menu bar.
 
EMG, if its selected, go to Edit/Copy.

Then go to the image you want to place the image into, and go to Edit/Paste.

Alternatively you can use keyboard shotcuts.

Copy= Ctrl+C

Paste= Ctrl+V

Google "type of photoshop your trying to do" Photoshop Tutorial.

And theres step by step better then the OEM help...also with pics to show you the way.

If you figure out how to drag the pic you just pasted around...tell me! i never figured it out. It just paste in a square i draw or if i transfer the outline over and use that to guide.

To move the pasted object -- which is now a new layer if you are working in RGB or above mode -- just click on the arrow at the top of the toolbar and move your mouse or use your directional keys.

The trick is the tool you have selected when you attempt the drag. If you use the marquee tool (in whatever form, rectangle, lasso, magnetic lasso) to select the part of the image you want, you must them select the "Move Tool" before you attempt to drag it.

If you try dragging with the marquee tool selected, you'll only suceed in moving the marquee frame around the image. With the Move Tool selected you click on the area you want to move and drag it wherever you want whether its in the same image or in a new file. when its placed where you want, release the mouse button.

Ok....I see how to drag and drop onto the pic I want to put it in......but I'm trying to cut around the image so that I don't past the whole picture onto the new image...I want to cut around a selected object so that object is the only thing in the picture to be moved over to the new pic.

I have managed to use the lasso tool to cut around the image so that there is a line around the object I want to cut out....but I can't figure out how to cut the rest of the picture away from it so that I can move just that object over to the new picture.

There is a magic wand tool you can use to select areas of similar colour. That might work for you, depending on the image...it would be quite easy if the image is very distinct from the background (like with a black and white image). I find the lasso tool is a bit difficult to be precise with...although you can use the lasso tool with the option key to get a bit more exact. To make a really precise selection, you would want to use points and curve handles. It can take some time to learn and master however. Best to find a tutorial to help you through.

Can you post the image? It would be easier to give you some pointers then.
