Exactly. A fish like that needs a heated pond.

I understand how easy it is to think logically that, since all the other "sharks" in the hobby grow to managable sizes, 6-7 inches, this one must as well. But research is a must before buying fish. Good luck!
 
the fish in the pic has red coloration to its fins, black sharks are completely black.

Congealedmeat and Nowhereman are right, it's definately a black shark. Your friend should think about returning it... they should reach over 2 feet in length.
 
But look at the dorsal fin of the fish in the picture: it's large and has a wave to it and it extends down the fish's back, almost to the tail. The cigar shark's dorsal isn't nearly the same shape.

The body shape is also quite different.

The red coloration of the fins could be caused by lighting or reflections of its surroundings.

I'm not saying it's DEFINETELY a Black Shark, but from the pictures it looks like a darn good match... and either way, it is a fish that will grow to a fairly large size.
