They have a good price on unbreakable heaters, but it looks like it isn't a name brand. Item #MA-11958. When I called they told me it was made by a company called Commodity Axis, that they never had one returned and that it comes with a 6 month warantee? I'd like an unbreakable heater since I have some boisterous fish, and the external control looks good. I also have my eye on some from e-bay and Big Al's (though someone posting having trouble with returns at Big Al's has me worried)

Well, called Big Als on Via Aqua

And they said to steer clear of them since they don't answer their phones or honor their warrantees :(. Big Als said they do have a 2 year warantee though (one year through manufacturer and Big Als adds another year on top of that for electronics. What does that leave? This unknown brand at Drs. Foster and Smith and Won for titamium heaters? Or should I just get a Hagan Tronics with a guard?

Also, has anybody tried Stealth heaters

Big Als suggested Stealth brand heaters but said they were new and they didn't have any info yet on their reliability.

Is that the Dr Foster and smith one?

I guess I was musing on other heaters as well (OH NO, is it the same as talking to yourself if you answer your own posts?) I'm kinda seriously considering the Won Pro-heat too.

The 300w I have is from Dr F&S. As for the pro heat model I have two 500w in my pond for the winter. The thermostats are inclosed in a rain tight box. These have gone through one winter so far.

How big is your pond?

I know someone at work that is looking for a way to heat their pond to keep cichlids in it year round. Do you use it to actually keep the pond warm or to just keep ice off? We don't freeze normally around here, but can get to around 36 or 38 sometimes in winter.

I use them to keep the water warm. I live just out side of NOLA and it doesn't freeze much. it got below 30deg a couple of times last year and my water stayed at 74deg. You will get a lot of evorporation but thats not a problem, just add water. My pond is around 200g
