Anyone with Bettas?

Actually, Alpha, Bettas can be successfully kept together provided they have enough room and plants to control things. Certainly, I do not recommend 5 or 6 bettas in one aquarium of this size, but two or three is quite do'able. Congrats, I hope they work out for you! :D

I would have to agree with aquariumfishguy. Given two bettas with the right personalities, it is doable. My betta, on the other hand, lacks this "right" personality. ;)

Best of luck to you, though, Chrisp!

Well, everything is going great! All 3 are getting along great. They spend most of the day swimming together around the tank and each has a staked out a different corner for when they want to be alone.

actually, aquariumfishguy, I have known ppl with bigger tanks and multiple bettas in them that were fine for a period of time, then something happens and one fish either kills or injures another. Usually females are ok together, but I personally myself wouldnt put a male with any other betta. I have some males that harass any other fish, betta or not. I got one now that just killed an oto. I dunno, mabye its me, maybe I got some bizarre violent bloodline or something.
Just my experience with the fish.

I had a male and female together for many months in a heavily planted tank. They were fine all along. the female died of a previous health cond I could not treat. She had air bladder disease and it finally killed her after many months. I tried everything!

The point is, the male did not kill her. As soon as I transfer most of the fish out of the 10 g I have the male betta in, I will get him another mate....

A co-worker of mine had a 75 gal tank with many peaceful schooling fish and such in it, and a male betta and 3 females. For several months this was fine. Then one day she came home the male was way shredded and one of the females was way shredded and dead.

I also have an aunt who had a large tank and a male and female betta in it with other fish. Similar story except this time both fish ended up dead.

These are the only ppl I know who have put males and females together and the story did not end well for either of them.

I would wonder about the planting of the tank I am going to heavily plant my tanks if I can find the plants locally that I want.
