I would like to know what Apistos will mix with each other, I am looking for the brighter, more peacefull ones (if there are any lol)
thanks

What do you have as of now?

IMO Blue Rams are very pretty and are peaceful as long as they aren't breeding...

If you are asking which Apisto species will co-exist, you have many, many options. But, IMO, the biggest factor in the equation is the size of the tank and the number of Apistos you want to keep. Do you have any specific species you're interested in? Color varies not only between species but even within species. Cacatuoides are relatively peaceful and will co-exist with many others. I'm sure Z man will see this post. His input will be very informative.

I am hopeing to get the Juwel Rio 240Litre tank, basically I would like as many cichlids as possible for that tank size, as i like alot of mevement in the tank and also a colourfull tank, i was thinking of the apistos as theyr smaller, so any suggestions? I dont have any fish yet.

A 240 liter tanks equates to about 63 US gallons. You have a lot of possibilities with that size tank. Cacatuoides are pretty easy to get and will usually tolerate a variety of water conditions. I would look for some double or triple red varieties (more color). You could also get some Rams as Panzer mentioned. The Bolivian Ram (Microgeophagus altispinosa) is a nice little fish that has good color and will work with most Apistos in that large of environment.

If you're simply looking for small cichlids with lots of color, you might be better off with some smaller Africans (instead of SA cichlids). What are your water parameters like over there (pH and hardness)?

I got a feeling thats where the probs will start, my GH about 12 (not very acurate test) is and my KH is about 7

You can keep some SA dwarfs in water that hard, but that's just a little too hard for most species to thrive, IMO. But you can always lower it using RO. Have you thought about Africans? There are some really nicely colored ones that stay small ~3-4 inches.

I'm not trying to talk you out of Apistos or other SA dwarf cichlids. In fact, I have a community tank of SA dwarfs myself. But smaller Africans my be a better option for you w/o you having to invest money and effort to modify your water.

Hmmm RO is not really a possibility for me, and i dont really like playing with the water chemistry if u know what I mean.

The other option is I just do a normal community tank with thinkgs like clown loaches, corrys, plecs, neons, rasboras etc, is there any cichlids what would go with there type of fish?

Thanks

I don't blame for you not really wanting to play with the water chemistry. Rams are a nice all around community fish, but they often require good, clean water. They aren't as forgiving as many "community" type fish like you mention. If you're diligent in your water changes. The Bolivian Ram would, IMO, be a better choice for your community than the German Ram (Microgeophagus ramirezi), but then many have kept communities of various fishes with the ramirezis.

The fish that you listed come from a pretty widely distributed geographic area (South America and Asia) and in the wild require different types of water, but many species have been tank bred for so long that they've somewhat lost their stringent native water requirements. Many people keep all kinds of things together and make it work.

Well those fish where just suggestions. I normally do 40% weekly water change on my current tank, but i may have to cut that down to about 30-35% for the bigger tank. Also I would like it planted, will that be a problem with cichlids?
