I keep seeing people recommend apple snails as additions for this or that. I am told by my LFS that they are outlawed for some reason. I am in WI, I dont now if that is a local ban or if they are misinformed, etc. Someone able to straighten this out?

Myserty snail is not the same species though is it?

a mystery snail will not attain the size of an apple snail though will it? I have several types of mystery snail and they are all around golf ball sized and have not appeared to grow any more.

the banned apple snails you speak of are probably canas (Pomacea canaliculata). they are voracious plant eaters and if released in the wild could spell trouble for local ecosystems.

Well more about my initial comment, the apple snail arguement that the LFS made was describing them as baseball sized snails, not the small ones I have in my home aquarium.

Then those are not the snails that you see repeatedly recommended. The smaller, gold ball sized snails are what people are usually referring to.
