Hi folks!
I was recommended an aquaclear 500 for my 46 gal community tank. Said more filtration will help since I plan to be fairly well stocked.

Everything seems to work great, only, I am annoyed by the sound my filter makes. It sounds like it would sound if the lid were on loose, and was vibrating on the plastic parts. Only... it makes that sound when the lid is off. I expect a little motor noise, but should it be making this kinda vibrating noise? It is not overly loud, but is noticable in an otherwise quiet room.

Any ideas on how I can quiet it a bit?

unplug it and plug it in a few times. mine dows that every now and then.

My AC200 did the same exact thing. I went as far as to replace the impeller and shaft, but it still worked. I could never figure it out, so I went and bought a new one.

I now use the noisy one for when I'm running my hospital tank.

I'd dissasemble, re-assemble, make sure it's full of water and on full flow then start it. if it's still noisy after 2-3 minutes, I'd take it back and exchange it for a new one. my experience with AC's is that they are virtually silent in function unless something is wrong. they are a slight bit noisier on low flow, but not enough to hear from 5 feet away.

Thanks for the help guys.

I will try and take it apart and put it back together. The thing is brand new though. (its the new version of the 500 actually, says 110 on the box)
If that doesn't work I guess I will exchange it where I got it at That Fish Place in lancaster.

Any other ideas on things to try? I definately notice the noise... its not horribly loud, but it is enough for me to notice it sounding louder than it should.
